Nigel de Jong has revealed that AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi reminds him of his former Dutch national team boss Louis van Gaal.

De Jong played a crucial role at the heart of the Netherlands’ midfield as Van Gaal’s side finished third in the World Cup in Brazil this summer against all expectations.

There was talk in the summer that the midfield enforcer might reunite with the former Ajax manager at Manchester United, but De Jong chose to remain at Milan.

The 29-year-old has now revealed that Inzaghi’s working style reminds him of Van Gaal and Huub Stevens, his former Hamburg manager.

"He reminds me of Louis van Gaal and Huub Stevens”, De Jong was quoted as saying by Soccer News.

De Jong explained that Inzaghi still has the instincts of a footballer, which are very helpful, and said that the Italian has brought a different style of football to AC Milan.

“He still thinks as a player and that is very useful for us.

“Inzaghi asks us to play a different style of football than what we were used to under Massimiliano Allegri and Clarence Seedorf but that is not a problem.”

AC Milan have started the season on a positive note and are top of Serie A after winning their first two league fixtures.
