Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal are financially strong enough to challenge for both the Premier League title and the Champions League.

After a win and three draws, the Gunners are currently seventh in the Premier League table on six points.

They have not made the most auspicious of starts in the Champions League as well after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, being comprehensively outplayed.

Over the last few years Arsenal have lost players such as Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie due to financial constraints, but Wenger feels those days are over at the Emirates Stadium.

The Frenchman believes that the Gunners are on a strong financial footing and have the muscle to attract the top stars to the club.

“We are in a more comfortable situation financially than few years ago and we lost [some of] our big players”, Wenger said in an interview with Arsenal's smartphone sponsor Huawei.

“Now not only do we keep our big players but we are capable to buy [Mesut] Ozil and [Alexis] Sanchez so of course we are better off.”

Wenger is happy that he could finally end Arsenal’s nine-year long trophy drought with the FA Cup triumph last season, but believes that they are in a position to aim for the bigger prizes on offer.

“Let’s not forget that last year we were at the top of the league for 128 days, we won the FA Cup.

“But we are stronger and we can fight for the Premier League and the Champions League.”

Arsenal will travel to Birmingham to take on an in-from Aston Villa side at Villa Park on Saturday.
