Former Manchester United youth team player Danny Drinkwater is excited at the prospect of facing his old club in Leicester City colours this coming weekend.

Drinkwater, a product of Manchester United’s academy, never made a senior appearance at his boyhood club.

After multiple loans spells at clubs such as Cardiff City, Watford and Barnsley, the midfielder joined Leicester on a permanent deal in January 2012.

Drinkwater admits that the club have changed a lot since he left, but he is not intimidated by the prospect of facing the likes of Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

As a lifelong fan of the Red Devils, he is excited to see the club moving in a different, but in his view, more positive direction.

"I'll have to take it in my stride", Drinkwater told MUTV, talking about facing his old club's stars.

"If you get fazed, it only has a negative effect. So I'll be getting on with my game and not concentrating on the big names.

“Louis van Gaal has changed an awful lot there – and for the better it would seem from last weekend. It's exciting as a fan.”

Drinkwater conceded that his family are lifelong Manchester United fans and he wants the club to win every game. However, he is hoping for a different result on Sunday.

"I suppose Sunday's going to be a bit mad for me being a United fan but I'm looking forward to it.

“Hopefully, my family will be supporting Leicester because of me but they're United fans as well. I like the Reds to win wherever they go but not this time!"

Drinkwater has firmly established himself at Leicester and played a crucial role in the club winning promotion to the Premier League last season. He has made 117 appearances for the club, scoring eleven goals and providing 12 assists.
