Mehdi Benatia has wished his former club AS Roma well despite being accused of lying by club president James Pallotta.

The Moroccan centre half joined Bayern Munich this summer after an extended transfer saga that dominated headlines for months.

The 27-year-old earlier this year accused the Roma hierarchy of breaking promises and believed he warranted a better pay package at the club.

The saga refused to die down even after Benatia completed the transfer last month as Pallotta accused the player of lying to Rudi Garcia and his club mates.

"Lying to me was something I could have tolerated, but lying to Garcia and his team-mates was totally unacceptable to me", Pallotta said.

However, Benatia refused to comment on the latest allegations against him and said that he solely focused on his job at Bayern Munich.

“The press have done everything to get to this point", the Moroccan told Sky Italia.

"I have many friends in Rome, I consider myself a fan of the club. But I'm now focused solely on Bayern Munich.”

The Moroccan refused to pay heed to the allegations and is happy that Roma have started the season on a positive note.

“I have received so many allegations from my former fans saying that I am a bad person.

“But I sleep well and I am happy that Roma have started the season well in the league as well as the Champions League.”

Benatia spent only one season at Roma and made 37 appearances for the club before joining the Bavarians this summer.
