Felix Magath has declared his belief that he would have been able to turn Fulham around if he had been afforded more time.

The former Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg boss was shown the door at Craven Cottage earlier today after a disastrous start to the season which saw Fulham pick up just one point from seven games.

Magath admits that Fulham's results were not good enough, but pointed to the young squad he had at his disposal and expressed his belief that the worm would have turned.

Fulham, who lost 5-3 to Nottingham Forest earlier this week, sit rock bottom of the table with one point from seven games.

Magath told German news wire DPA: "I am disappointed and surprised, because I am sure that I would have stopped the downfall of the club with drastic changes in the squad to a young team, although the first results of the season have not shown this."

Magath took over at Fulham late last season, but was unable to help the Cottagers avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Kit Symons has been appointed caretaker manager at the club while the search for a new manager commences.
