Former Arsenal defensive midfielder Alex Song has revealed that it was an easy decision for him to join West Ham United this summer.

The Cameroon international joined the Hammers on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona during the transfer window and made his debut for his new employers in their 2-2 Premier League draw with Hull City on Monday.

And Song, who insisted that he wanted to return to the Premier League, thanked West Ham for providing him with that opportunity.

The 27-year-old also insisted that playing in England’s top flight was more important to him than representing a Champions League club.

“The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world, so I'm very happy to come back and I'm looking forward to the season”, he explained to West Ham’s official site.

"It was an easy decision to come to West Ham because I wanted to come back to the Premier League. West Ham gave me the opportunity and I'm very happy because it's a good project at this club too.

“I jumped at the chance to come here – it was more important to come back to the Premier League for me than to play for another club in the Champions League."

Song, who came on as a second-half substitute against the Tigers at the KC Stadium, made 204 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners during his six-year spell at the Emirates Stadium, before joining Barcelona in 2012.
