Thibaut Courtois has admitted that Chelsea expected to win against Schalke, following his side’s 1-1 draw with the Bundesliga outfit in their Champions League opener last night.

The Blues, who went into the fixture on the back of four consecutive Premier League wins, took an 11th-minute lead through Cesc Fabregas at Stamford Bridge.

But Dutch international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar equalised for the visitors’ midway through the second half to share the points.

And Courtois, who revealed Chelsea expected to bag the full three points from the contest, however insisted that the season is “very long” and hence wants his side to keep working hard.

“We have won four games in the league and the draw today [Wednesday] was not what we expected”, the goalkeeper told UEFA’s official site.

Presently, all four teams of Group G find themselves on one point each, following a similar 1-1 stalemate between Maribor and Sporting Lisbon in the group’s other game last night.
