Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has stressed that his team must beat Chelsea this Sunday to cut down their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Blues have made a scintillating start to the season by winning all their first four games, which means their title rivals are already playing catch-up.

Meanwhile, the defending champions Manchester City have struggled to build any momentum in this campaign and collected only seven points from their first four league fixtures.

They just about managed to scramble a point against Arsenal last weekend after Martin Demichelis scored a late equaliser to level the score at 2-2.

However, Pellegrini feels that the Citizens have been unlucky in their last two fixtures, including their shock home defeat to Stoke.

He stressed that they need to win their next fixture against Chelsea or risk losing further ground to the early season league leaders.

“We have been very unlucky in our last two games”, the Chilean said in a press conference earlier today.

“We must win our next game at home so we are just two points behind”, he added.

Assessing their opponents, the Manchester City manager suggested he is not surprised by Chelsea’s fast start to the season.

“Chelsea have very good players in a very good moment. It is not a surprise they are there at the top.”
