Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva has revealed that Paul Scholes regularly left him speechless in training.

Scholes, who retired from football in 2013 after helping the Red Devils collect their 20th top flight English title, is widely regarded as having been one of the English game's finest midfielders.

And Rafael still appreciates the Englishman's talent, which he saw at close quarters on a regular basis in training.

Asked by Manchester United's site who scored the best goal he has ever seen in training, the Brazilian replied: "This is an easy question! Paul Scholes.

"He scored maybe 20 goals that were, you know, wow! Maybe more than 20 like that in training."

The full-back also had warm words for current Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs, who hung up his boots at the end of last season.

"Ryan Giggs also scored so many brilliant goals in training", Rafael added.

Scholes made a total of 718 appearances for Manchester United over the course of his time at Old Trafford, scoring 155 goals.
