Nigel Clough finds his late father, Brian Clough, and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho similar in terms of their self-confidence.

Clough senior is one of the greatest ever English managers in the history of the game and was famous for his stints at Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

He achieved promotion to the top tier of English football with Derby in 1969 and promptly won the First Division title in 1972.

After an forgettable 44-day spell as Leeds United manager, Clough senior took charge of Nottingham Forest and oversaw the most successful spell of the club’s history, culminating in two back-to-back European Cup triumphs in 1979 and 1980.

Nigel has drawn a comparison between his father and Mourinho, and believes that both share the same streak of brashness and self-confidence.

"He said he was better looking but that's one thing that I don't think he could claim to be”, Nigel told BBC Radio 5 live.

"There are similarities and there's a certain brashness about how they go about their jobs, a self-confidence. I don't know if that goes all the way through Jose or if it's a bit of a show.”

He also added that contrary to popular belief, his father too, like all other managers, did suffer from moments of self-doubt.

“Every manager and certainly my dad had a lot of moments of self-doubt."

Clough senior was one of the most prolific goalscorers of his era as a player and scored 251 goals in 274 league games for Middlesbrough and Sunderland. A cruciate ligament injury ended his playing career at the age of 29.
