Dutch international winger Arjen Robben is confident that Louis van Gaal will succeed at Manchester United.

Robben played under Van Gaal’s stewardship at Bayern Munich and was one of the star performers of the Dutch national team that finished third in the World Cup this summer under the guidance of the Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils’ 4-0 win against Queens Park Rangers last weekend was Van Gaal’s first win as Manchester United manager in a competitive fixture.

Robben feels that Manchester United need to trust Van Gaal, but said that the Dutchman will require time to turn the team around. However, he is confident that the former Ajax manager will be a success at Old Trafford.

"I have not recently talked with Van Gaal, but I was very happy for him that he won the match against Queens Park Rangers”, Robben was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

“Hopefully he can show that he is going to do very well, but he needs time.

“I know how it works. If you do not win, you will feel the pressure, but the board of Manchester United know what kind of coach they have appointed and I am confident that Van Gaal will be successful.”

The Dutch winger is confident that the former Ajax manager can get Manchester United back into next season’s Champions League.

"Van Gaal can bring the club back into the Champions League next season, where United belong.”

Robben stressed that the former Barcelona manager has the ability to make teams play better football and more importantly he can make individual players better footballers.

"I worked with Van Gaal at Bayern and with the Dutch national team, so I've known him a long time.

“He is one of the few coaches under whom teams can play better. He can make individual players better footballers.

“United have young talented players and I have no doubt that Van Gaal is going to do good at Old Trafford."

Van Gaal’s next task is to tap into the new-found confidence at Manchester United and mastermind another win for them at the King Power Stadium against Leicester City this Sunday.
