West Ham manager Sam Allardyce believes it is a “shame” for the Premier League to lose Luis Suarez, although admitting that he is relieved not to face the Uruguayan international in his side’s clash against Liverpool tomorrow.

Suarez, who was the Premier League’s top-scorer last term with 31 strikes to his name, left the Reds for La Liga giants Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool roped in as many as nine players in the summer to counter the loss of Suarez, whom Allardyce considers a “fantastic” player.

The Hammers boss, who believes the Premier League will miss the striker’s talent, however feels a host of class players were brought into the league this summer.

"From a selfish point of view, yes. I'm glad we don't have to face him,” Allardyce told his club’s official site.

“But for the sake of the Barclays Premier League it is a shame, he's a fantastic player. Thankfully a lot of quality was brought into the league this summer.

“Liverpool bought well with the fee they got for Suarez. He's truly missed in terms of his talent, but we're rather glad he's not playing us this weekend."

West Ham, who are currently 13th in the Premier League with four points from as many games, lost both their Premier League fixtures against the Merseyside giants in the 2013/14 campaign.
