Leeds United are closing in on Sturm Graz coach Darko Milanic, who could well be presented as the club's new head coach early next week.

The White have been linked with the Slovenian tactician throughout the week, but Sturm Graz issued strong denials of any contact with the English club, while Milanic himself dubbed the chatter "rumours".

However, according to the BBC, Milanic is now negotiating a severance package with Sturm Graz and is poised to become the new Leeds boss.

Milanic's contract with the Austrian Bundesliga side runs until 2016.

The 46-year-old only took charge at Sturm Graz last year, switching from Slovenian outfit NK Maribor.

Milanic led Maribor to four Slovenian titles during a hugely successful spell at the club.

Leeds sacked David Hockaday as their manager earlier this season following a poor run of results. Milanic will become the third permanent manager to work under owner Massimo Cellino, despite the Italian only taking control of Leeds earlier this year.
