As anticipation builds amongst Brondby fans at the prospect of Daniel Agger turning out for the team for the first time since his summer move from Liverpool, the man himself has revealed he has higher expectations of his own performances than the supporters.

Liverpool made Agger surplus to requirements this summer, but found themselves forced to accept a knockdown fee for the Denmark international when he dug his heels in and insisted he would only leave Anfield to sign for former club Brondby.

As a result Liverpool are thought to have banked just £3m for a centre-back considered by many to be amongst the most cultured in European football.

Agger has yet to make what will be his second debut for Brondby following his return, being dogged by a slight injury. He is however in the squad for today's Superliga clash against FC Copenhagen.

"I also have high expectations for myself and they are often higher than those outside [the club]", Agger explained to Ekstra Bladet.

"I think it is very natural for an athlete and playing catch up has therefore annoyed me. I know I am not at 100 per cent."

Agger is also under no illusions about the fact that attacking players in the Danish top flight will be motivated to face him on account of his time in the Premier League and standing in the game.

"Of course [they will be]. But conversely, I also have to show that there is a reason I played over there for nine years.

"I also have something I must show. Of course I do. But I know that it will be difficult."
