Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is at a loss to understand why his side went down 1-0 at home against West Brom today at White Hart Lane.

Pochettino's men had been tipped to steamroller a Baggies side still looking for their first win of the new Premier League season.

But Tottenham, despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, failed to create a killer opening and found themselves behind when James Morrison rose highest to head home a Chris Brunt corner in the 74th minute.

Spurs could find no way back and went down to a tame defeat, leaving Pochettino scratching his head.

"We played with a very slow tempo at the beginning of the game and it was difficult after that to go and win", the Argentine told Spurs TV.

"We need to analyse why because we had a very bad day. Maybe we didn’t deserve to lose the game but we made a mistake from a set-piece and after that the team never showed the belief to get the three points.

"I’m surprised, very disappointed and we need to understand why.

"I think the reason is we played very slowly at the beginning and we need to move the ball faster. After that, without the ball, we need to be more aggressive."
