Celtic boss Ronny Deila has insisted that his team would relish the prospect of facing Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish League Cup this year.

The Gers have been steadily rising through the Scottish leagues following their decline into liquidation in 2012, and now sit in the second tier.

And as Deila's side prepare to take on Hearts in a League Cup third round tie on Wednesday, the 39-year-old is hoping that his team win the match and improve their prospects of meeting Rangers, who play Falkirk in the same tournament on Tuesday night.

"We would love to play Rangers. Everybody is waiting for an Old Firm game and that's what we want", Deila was quoted as saying by ITV.

"It is a big game. I haven't seen so much of Rangers so we will see if the game does come.

"The League Cup is very important, it is the first trophy we can win and we are going to go for it.

"Cup finals are unbelievable and that is why I am here, to win trophies and to develop the team in the right way.

"That is why I am looking forward to the game on Wednesday. I will play my best team."

The Bhoys have has a lacklustre start to their 2014/15 season under Deila, having been knocked out of the Champions League from the qualifying stage, while they are currently placed fourth in the Scottish Premiership table with only one win in their last four league matches.
