Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has admitted that the absence of Daniel Sturridge is a massive miss for his side.

The striker, who has scored 37 goals in 52 appearances for the Reds, suffered a thigh injury while on England duty over the international break and has been ruled out for three weeks.

Liverpool have lost both their matches without Sturridge this season, going down 1-0 and 3-1 to Aston Villa and West Ham United respectively.

And Sterling, who underlined the importance of Sturridge in the Liverpool squad, feels the Merseyside giants will be a bigger threat going forward once the 25-year-old returns to action.

"Daniel is a massive miss for us with his goals and the way he plays in behind defenders", he told Liverpool’s official site.

"Him coming back should add another dimension to the team. It will definitely be a test of character but I think there is a lot of character in this group."

Sturridge, who was the Premier League’s second-highest goalscorer last season with 22 strikes to his name, is slated to return to action in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.
