Fabio Borini insists that summer speculation about his future did not affect him and expressed his delight at making his first league start of the season for Liverpool on Saturday.

The Reds slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Upton Park against the Hammers, but for Borini there was at least something positive to take from the game as manager Brendan Rodgers handed him a starting role.

And for a man who saw Liverpool accept offers from Sunderland and QPR for him in the summer transfer window, that was a welcome development.

"[I’m] very pleased for this achievement, so soon after the rumours, which never affected me", he told LFC TV.

"I'll keep working hard. Obviously [West Ham] was the first game, but I'm quite happy with how I've done and I'll keep working from this."

Borini will be hoping to clock up more Liverpool playing time tomorrow when the Reds lock horns with Championship side Middlesbrough in the League Cup at Anfield.

After that fixture Liverpool face Everton on Saturday in what is the first Merseyside derby of the new season.
