Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his relief that starlet Chuba Akpom has developed his finishing to an acceptable level and stated his belief that the England youth international can become a top player.

Wenger could throw Akpom into his side's League Cup clash against Southampton on Tuesday and the Frenchman explained that if the ball drops to the striker in a good area, he has little doubt he now has the tools required to put it away.



"I'm happy that he has developed as a goalscorer, because when he was a younger kid, his problem was finishing", the Arsenal boss said via his club's site.

"That has gone now.

 


"He's a very good finisher and he has now to learn the tactical side of his game.

"Then he will be ready, because he is a huge talent."

The 18-year-old was developed in the youth ranks at Arsenal and has been out on loan stints with Brentford and Coventry City.

Akpom has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 level.
