Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell has insisted that his team committed "basic mistakes" to hand their Yorkshire rivals Leeds United a 3-0 win in the Championship on Saturday.

The loss means that the Terriers are now in the relegation zone, having lost three of their last four league matches. On the other hand their rivals Leeds have now won two in a row and are currently placed 11th in the league with 13 points.

Speaking about the match, the former West Ham United player pointed to the mistakes that his team committed during the course of the match as the cause of their undoing.

“I thought we started off well with regards to our ball retention, but goals change games", the 45-year-old told his club's official site.

"Their goals were primarily our own doing. You can’t make basic mistakes like that in any game, let alone a big Yorkshire derby, and they made us pay for them.

"We shouldn’t be making those at Championship level."

Terming the second goal a "killer blow", the former Leicester City caretaker manager added that once the second goal was scored, it became a tall order for his team.

"The killer blow was undoubtedly the second goal right on the stroke of half-time.

"If we went in 1-0 down we were definitely in the game, but 2-0 makes it a tall order."
