Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil feels that his performances are criticised more than other players.

Ozil has faced some criticism for his performances with Arsenal at the start of this season, but he played a pivotal role in the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Aston Villa this weekend with a goal and an assist.

The German has now responded the criticism and stressed that he believes that he has been unfairly targeted throughout his career and so there is no point in paying any heed to his critics.

On the back of his performance against the Villans, former Real Madrid schemer claims that he has nothing to prove to anybody.

"I don't play to prove anything to anybody, I play for Arsenal", Ozil told German news agency DPA.

"I have the feeling that I am criticised more, that happened to me in the Bundesliga and also at Real Madrid.”

Ozil believes that the season has just started and he is still getting used to a new look Arsenal team, so the criticism for his performances was unfair and unjustified.

"We have only just started the season, we have new players in key positions.

"The collective game, which is something I have a lot to do with, cannot then just work well from one day to the next."

He has made 46 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival last summer for £42.5m, scoring eight goals and providing 15 assists.
