Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers claims he is having no issues working with striker Mario Balotelli and is pleased with the Italian's work ethic to date.

The Reds paid AC Milan £16m to snap up Balotelli in the summer, bringing in a player who has been dogged by controversy throughout his career.

However, Rodgers has nothing but good words about the former Manchester City hitman and explained he is always willing to give opportunities to those players who are prepared to shed sweat to improve.

"I've really enjoyed working with him so far", Rodgers told a press conference.

"He's a good guy and he wants to do well for the club.

"For me he's not complicated. He's a football player who wants to do well in his life and his career.

"And if he continues to work tirelessly for the cause then there will always be an opportunity for him."

Balotelli has made four appearances for Liverpool so far, scoring in the club's 2-1 Champions League win over Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad.

The 24-year-old could not help his side avoid defeat at the weekend though, as Liverpool went down 3-1 to West Ham at Upton Park.
