Daniel Agger has revealed he felt unappreciated by Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, something which contributed to his departure from Anfield.

The Denmark international centre-back was made surplus to requirements by Rodgers this summer. But having insisted he would only leave the Reds to rejoin former club Brondby, Liverpool received a fee thought to be as little as £3m for Agger; the defender had been chased by Barcelona, Napoli and Manchester City over the previous 12 months.

The centre-back, who had been at Anfield since 2006, has looked on as Liverpool's poor defensive form has continued under Rodgers this season, with the club losing three of their opening five Premier League games.

And Agger has revealed that Rodgers rarely showed any appreciation of his efforts or all he had done for the club over his eight-and-a-half-year spell.

"I did not feel that he appreciated the things I was able to do and contributed", Agger told TV3, speaking about Rodgers.

"When I feel that, then it's time to move on.

"When you've featured in some games and you have worked for a lot of points together, and you really feel that you have contributed something, but are so neglected and unappreciated, a lot of things go on in your head at once."

Agger made his 'second' debut for Brondby yesterday, turning out against FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga.
