Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has apologised to the club's fans after they watched the Red Devils throw away a 3-1 lead over Leicester City.

Mata and company had looked in control up until the 62nd minute, when the Foxes launched a blistering comeback at the King Power Stadium, grabbing three points and subjecting the Red Devils to another defeat.

With Manchester United having travelled south with optimism after crushing QPR 4-0 the previous weekend, the defeat was unimaginable, Mata explained.

"After a whole week waiting for the match, I could not imagine a Sunday like this", he wrote on his blog.

"On our way back to Manchester I was thinking about what had happened and felt so disappointed."

And the former Chelsea man was quick to say sorry to the club's supporters, while paying tribute to them for their continued support of the side through tough times.

"Honestly, I feel very sorry that the weekend ended up for our fans in such a sad way.

"Thank you for being there in the good and the bad times and never giving up", Mata added.
