Roma president James Pallotta has hit out at constant reports from England linking the club's midfielder Kevin Strootman with Manchester United.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is known to be a firm fan of Strootman and the Dutchman has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

But Pallotta has told the media that to report any possibility of Strootman leaving Roma for Manchester United would be to waste paper and made clear that the Netherlands international will not be leaving the Italian capital.

Pallotta said in a statement: "There has been non-stop reporting in UK newspapers about Kevin Strootman and Manchester United.

"Kevin Strootman is not for sale and has never been discussed in that vein at Roma. They are wasting paper.

"We consider Kevin an integral, highly valued partner in our long term plans."

Strootman is still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained in March this year and which saw him miss the World Cup in Brazil.

Roma paid around €20m to sign Strootman from PSV Eindhoven last summer and the Netherlands international helped power the Giallorossi's first half of the season, in which they eventually finished second in Serie A.
