Walter Mazzarri admits that there is still work to be done at Inter Milan before they can be termed serious Serie A title contenders again.

The Nerazzurri only managed to earn a point in a 1-1 draw against Palermo away from home yesterday.

Franco Vazquez stole the ball from Nemanja Vidic to give the home side the lead in the fourth minute, but Mateo Kovacic levelled the score in the 42nd minute. It was the Croatian’s second goal in as many games.

After last week’s euphoric 7-0 win over Sassuolo, Inter found it difficult against Palermo yesterday and Mazzarri admits that a lot of work is still required for the Nerazzurri to become a real force again.

The Italian said that the team are still on the development path and believes they can certainly do a lot better in the future.

“There’s still work to be done both mentally and in terms of our performances on the pitch”, the Inter manager told the club’s official site.

“We are Inter – we know what standards are expected of us. We’re growing as a team. We accept the draw and move forward.

“It was a tough match and we can certainly do better.”

After one win and two draws, Inter are sixth in Serie A on five points.
