New Hull City star Mohamed Diame believes he was played out of position at former club West Ham and will flourish in his natural role with the Tigers.

Diame cost Hull £3.5m to sign from the Hammers on transfer deadline day and quickly scored against his former club in a 2-2 draw at the KC Stadium.

Diame feels that Hull manager Steve Bruce is playing him in his natural position in midfield, and as a result he will find the back of the net more often.

The midfielder also explained that West Ham deployed him on the wing, limiting his effectiveness.

"I am in a different position to West Ham. I was a winger there. I am now back in midfield where I have played all my life. West Ham is a great club and the fans were always behind me. But I am not a winger", Diame was quoted as saying by ITV.

"I have goal targets, too, and playing as a winger meant I couldn't meet that target.

"I like Hull as a club. I can see myself doing well here."

The 27-year-old joined West Ham from Wigan Athletic in 2012 after impressing with the Latics.

Diame is a product of the prestigious Clairefontaine youth academy in France.
