Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has conceded he is unsure why he has selected Darko Milanic to become the club's new boss and joked it is because the Slovenian is good looking.

Milanic has left his post as manager of Austrian side Sturm Graz to jet into Leeds to pen a two-year deal to succeed David Hockaday at Elland Road.

When Hockaday took over Cellino joked that coaches are like watermelons and he has again said as much when confirming his choice of Milanic.

"He's just arrived. We've been waiting for him about 15 days", Cellino was quoted as saying by the BBC.

He added: "I don't know [why I’ve chosen him]. Coaches are like watermelons. You find out about them when you open them.

"His particularly qualities? He's good looking, what can I tell you?"

Milanic won four Slovenian league titles during a spell with NK Maribor before upping sticks to head to Sturm Graz last year.

Cellino, who is familiar with Milanic's agent as the representative also counts Leeds midfielder Zan Benedicic amongst his clients, worked his way through 36 coaches in his time as owner of Italian side Cagliari.
