Southampton manager Ronald Koeman believes Nathaniel Clyne is ready to represent England, following the right-back’s great start to the season.

The 23-year-old, who has played at Under-19 and Under-21 level for the Three Lions, scored a magnificent 35-yard goal during his side’s 2-1 win over Arsenal in the League Cup last night.

In addition, Clyne has also found the back of the net once in the Premier League in the current campaign.

And Dutch tactician Koeman, who feels the defender is ready to play for England, explained that Clyne brings a lot of experience to his side.

"I think he's ready [to play for England]", the manager told the BBC.

"He has a lot of experience, he is playing very well from the beginning of the season.

"He scored a great goal. I think his performance was very good and I think it's an option for the national coach and I'm very happy to have Clyney in our team because he brings a lot of experience.

"He brings a lot of spirit and I like to have and play with offensive full-backs. He shows that quality and it's very important for the team."

Clyne joined Southampton from Crystal Palace in 2012 after making 137 appearances for the Eagles.

The full-back, who has a further two years left on his present contract with the Saints, has thus far amassed 70 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring four times.
