Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has revealed that striker Christian Benteke might be available for selection for his team's upcoming fixture against Manchester City.

The 23-year-old has not featured in any of his team's matches this season, after having suffered from an Achilles injury in April.

However, the Belgian has finally resumed training with the manager now confirming that the striker could possibly be fit for their league encounter against Manchester City on 4th October.

The news of Benteke's return will be greeted with joy by the Villans, who have missed his physical presence up front.

"He's getting closer. Next week we will see how he is for the Man City game", Lambert was quoted as saying by ITV.

Lambert though refused to put his seal on the return date, despite insisting that the player is getting close to 100 per cent fitness.

"I'm not saying he'll start, or anything, but he's certainly getting close."

The Claret and Blues will visit Stamford Bridge meanwhile this weekend in order to take on Jose Mourihno's Chelsea.
