Paul Lambert has stressed that Aston Villa will need to be pragmatic in their approach when they take on Chelsea tomorrow.

Villa were unbeaten in the Premier League before Arsenal systematically dismantled them in 3-0 win at Villa Park last weekend.

Although Villa are still third in the league table, Lambert feels that they need to be more careful against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to avoid a heavy defeat.

"You've got to try and get a foothold in the game and not be out of it before you've started”, the Aston Villa manager told the club’s official site.

“If we can do that, then great.”

Lambert stressed that Aston Villa need to be more circumspect and pragmatic in their approach against the Blues than they were against the Gunners.

The Villa manager believes that his side need to go back to their style of football that brought results before the Arsenal game and play within their limitations.

He said that Villa need to ensure that they stay in the game for a longer period of time before they can entertain thoughts of getting a result against the league leaders.

"I'm not going to sit here and say we're going to go there and play free-flowing attacking football. You do that and I think you'll get beaten pretty heavily.

"But we'll try and do what we did in the four games before the Arsenal match and we'll try and get a result.

"What you try and do is get a foothold in the game, like we did at Anfield against Liverpool.”
