Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp believes that football’s governing bodies are not taking care of the players’ interests with their tight scheduling.

The German is trying to manage a Dortmund side that have been suffering from a number of injuries to key players in the squad and their club captain Mats Hummels only returned to action this week.

Klopp turned his ire towards the former players who are now high ranking officials in football’s governing bodies and said that they might have forgotten the hardships they faced during their career.

“Former players in high offices have forgotten the stress of their career”, the German told Kicker.

The Dortmund manager feels that the World Cup took a lot out of the players, especially the German players, and said that the short recovery time before the season started was a cocktail for disaster.

“The World Cup took a lot out of the players and the short holiday after that didn’t help.

“There was little time for recovery after such a big tournament.”

Klopp also criticised UEFA’s decision to expand Euro 2016 from 16 to 24 teams and said that the expansion is not going to help the already overworked players.

“The 2016 European Championship will have 24 teams as some people enjoy it, but that doesn’t make too much sense for the players.”
