Everton winger Aiden McGeady believes Roberto Martinez is one of the most tactically astute managers in the game.

Martinez brought the former Celtic man to Merseyside from Spartak Moscow in January this year and the winger has become a crucial cog in Everton’s attacking play.

The Irishman believes that the Spaniard is one of the most tactically sound managers in the game.

"He is probably one of the best I've seen tactically", McGeady told the BBC's Football Focus.

McGeady added that Martinez is a typical modern manager whose tactics are based on ball retention and attacking football and said that he has learned a lot about different aspects of the game from the Spaniard.

"He's part of this new breed of manager coming through, everything is attacking football, possession, just some of his little ideas on positions and variants of play I've never seen before.

"You can always learn in football and he's opened my eyes a little bit.”

Everton haven’t won against Liverpool at Anfield for the last 15 years and Martinez will be hoping to turn around the Toffees’ sorry record at the home of their most fierce rivals tomorrow.
