Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Suso is in contention to feature against Everton in the Merseyside derby tomorrow.

The midfielder, who spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Almeria, put in a good display after coming on as a substitute in the Reds’ penalty shootout victory over Middlesbrough in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Suso scored an extra-time goal and slotted in two penalties in the shootout to impress Rodgers in his first competitive outing of the present campaign.

And Rodgers, who has been pleased with the 20-year-old’s progress, insisted that the youngster is in the reckoning to play at Anfield against the Toffees.

"Young Suso was a player that when I first came in, he played quite a bit", the manager told the club’s official site.

"He's already experienced the derby in that first season away at Goodison and we've seen his impact from the other night.

"I was really pleased for him, because it's been difficult for him. We sent him out on loan to try and get games and experience.

"He has come in, put his head down over the course of pre-season and worked hard.

"He hasn't had a lot of game time and that's probably been difficult for him, but he's never shown it.

"He has got the same appetite in training. You saw his quality when he came on in the game, when the space opened up and even when it was tight, he had wonderful feet and wonderful technique.

"It was nice to see him score off his right foot and he's definitely one that comes into the reckoning."

Suso, who joined Liverpool’s youth set-up from Cadiz in 2010 after Rafael Benitez convinced him to snub Real Madrid, has thus far made 21 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring once.

The Spaniard has a further year left on his present contract with the Merseyside giants.
