Brendan Rodgers is hoping that a derby win for Liverpool later today will help to get their season back on track.

The Reds go into the game against Everton at Anfield on the back of two back-to-back defeats in the league and are languishing in 11th in the league table on six points.

However, Rodgers is hoping that a win later today will help Liverpool to build momentum for the upcoming games.

The Northern Irishman admits that there are a number of reasons that have contributed to Liverpool’s sluggish start to the season, but believes a win against Everton might prove to their catalyst for the season.

"Hopefully it would provide a platform for us to then go on and consistently get results in the league”, the Liverpool manager told the club’s official site.

"There have been a number of reasons why we haven't been as fluent over the course of the season so far, but the players are doing their best.”

Rodgers feels Liverpool need to be more organised, disciplined and more fluent and incisive with their passing if they want to regain the form that catapulted them to second in the league table last season.

"We need to be better organised and concentrated more in certain elements of our game, and then we need to reintroduce the principles that have brought us a very high win ratio over the last 18 months.

"That's about getting our tempo and intensity back in our passing. That will hopefully return at the weekend. If you get a win in the derby game, like we showed last season, we went on and didn't drop so many points after that.”

Everton are also without a win in their last three league fixtures and will be looking to get back to winning ways on the home turf of their most fierce rivals.
