Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert insists he cannot fault his players, despite seeing his side go down to a 3-0 defeat away at Chelsea today.

Lambert watched his side slip behind in the just seventh minute when goalkeeper Brad Guzan could not hold a Willian shot, allowing Oscar to tap the ball home for the hosts.

Chelsea controlled possession, but had to wait until the hour mark to double their advantage, Diego Costa heading the ball home.

The Blues then added a third with just ten minutes to play when Willian capped off a run with a neat finish, putting the result beyond any doubt.

But Lambert was in no mood to criticise his men post match and believes he could not have asked any more of them against Chelsea.

"I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves. We were really solid", Lambert told the BBC.

"I can't fault the lads", he added.

"When you do get a chance at a place like this you have to score. Maybe 3-0 was a little harsh on us."

Aston Villa now slip down to sixth in the Premier League standings with ten points from six games.
