Former Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay believes that Graziano Pelle scoring goals in the Premier League with Southampton is good news for the Eredivisie.

Makaay, a former Netherlands international, worked with Pelle as the striking coach at Feyenoord and is delighted with the impact his old pupil has had in the English top flight so far.

Makaay believes that Pelle's feats will only be good news for Eredivisie strikers and proves they can cut it in the more difficult climbs abroad.

"This is good for the name of our competition", Makaay told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"In the past the top scorers in the Eredivisie have been less than productive abroad. Think Mateja Kezman and Niklos Machlas. But more recently, Bjorn Vleminckx, Bas Dost and Luuk de Jong", he added.

Pelle was on target this weekend, hitting a stunning scissor-kick strike to help Southampton record a 2-1 win over QPR in the Premier League.

The hitman so far has five goals this term for the Saints.
