Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri feels he might have made a mistake by playing Nemanja Vidic “too much”, following his side’s 4-1 loss to Cagliari last night.

The centre-back, who joined Inter from Manchester United in the summer, looked sluggish against Cagliari as the San Siro outfit slumped to their first Serie A loss of the season.

Vidic played the full 90 minutes last night and also featured in the Nerazzurri’s last two league fixtures against Palermo and Atalanta respectively.

And Mazzarri, who thinks the 32-year-old cannot take the strain of playing three games in a week, is of the opinion that the defender is both physically and mentally tired.

"I perhaps made a mistake with Vidic by playing him too much”, the manager told his club’s official site.

“I take responsibility for it. There are players that can’t take three consecutive matches in this period.

“Is it physical or mental? A combination of the two. It never just comes down to physical conditioning at this level.”

Inter, who are currently fifth in the Serie A standings with eight points from five games, will next take on Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday.
