Liverpool forward Fabio Borini feels a win over FC Basel in the Champions League tomorrow will boost his side’s confidence ahead of their fixture against Real Madrid on 22nd October.

The Reds edged out Ludogorets Razgrad 2-1 in their Champions League opener two weeks ago, while Los Blancos thrashed FC Basel 5-1.

But Borini, whose side are struggling in the Premier League with just seven points from six games, wants Liverpool to defeat the Swiss outfit so that the Merseyside giants can take on Real Madrid in a relaxed manner without the fear of elimination creeping in.

However, the Italian international is aware that FC Basel are no pushovers, despite their thumping loss to Real Madrid.

"It would [a win] give us confidence to face one of the biggest teams in the world in the next game in the group, and would give us a good gap between the other two teams”, Borini explained to his club’s official site.

"It would maybe give us a chance to be more relaxed against Real Madrid and not thinking that we need to win otherwise we are out. It would take a little bit of pressure off.

"We saw that Basel can score goals if they take all their chances. If they are more clinical, they can be really dangerous, even if they lost 5-1 against Real Madrid.

"It's going to be a hard game because they play football and are a good side. They have been in the Champions League for the past few years so they have experience in the competition and they can play."

Liverpool, who are currently second in Group B of the Champions League, presently find themselves in 14th spot in the Premier League following their 1-1 draw with Everton at the weekend.
