Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he is pleased he signed midfielder Mathieu Flamini and striker Danny Welbeck this summer.

Wenger took the opportunity to hoover up free agent Flamini, bringing him to Arsenal for a second spell after the Frenchman had previously turned out for the Gunners between 2004 and 2008, at which time he joined AC Milan.

Welbeck meanwhile cost cold, hard cash, being a £16m purchase from Manchester United on transfer deadline day; he scored his first goal for Arsenal earlier this month in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

And Wenger could not be happier that he snapped up the pair.

Wenger told a press conference this afternoon: "His [Flamini’s] experience is vital to us. I took the opportunity to re-sign him and I'm pleased I did."

He added on Welbeck: "If we play well collectively then he will score. He's integrated very well into our team."

Wenger will expect both to play a key role for Arsenal tomorrow at the Emirates Stadium when they lock horns with Turkish side Galatasaray in a Champions League clash.

The Gunners lost their Champions League opener at Borussia Dortmund.
