Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has expressed his sympathy for his Newcastle United counterpart Pardew, following the Magpies’ 1-0 loss at the hands of his side last night.

Newcastle, who are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season, slumped to their third league loss of the present campaign, courtesy of Peter Crouch’s 15th-minute strike at the Britannia Stadium.

Pardew’s future at Newcastle is looking increasingly uncertain as his side are currently 19th in the standings with just three points from six outings.

And Hughes, who explained he has been in a similar situation, insisted Pardew should take encouragement from Newcastle’s display against the Potters.

However, the former Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers boss was quick to add that Stoke were the better team and deserved the full three points which helped his side to move up to 11th spot in the in the Premier League table.

"I wish Alan Pardew well", Hughes told the BBC.

"It's not easy, I've been in that situation. All you can do is work hard and he will be working with his staff to turn things around. They played well for him tonight and that will encourage him.

"We deserved the win on the balance of play. In terms of chances created we always looked a threat when we broke quickly with pace."
