Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that his side are not under added pressure in the Champions League despite losing their opening game 1-0 against Bayern Munich two weeks ago.

The English champions, who are up against Roma tonight, lost to a solitary late Jerome Boateng strike at the Allianz Arena in their Group E opener.

However, Pellegrini does not consider the narrow loss to be a failure as he went on to explain that a point against the Bundesliga giants would not have altered his side’s objective of recording a win over Roma.

The Chilean tactician also stressed how Manchester City bounced back from their opening day loss last season to win their remaining five group stage fixtures of the continental tournament.

“We were very close to getting a draw against Bayern Munich, but it was not a failure”, Pellegrini told UEFA’s official site.

“It was a very good shot that deflected into the goal. If we had drawn against Bayern Munich, we would still have the same pressure to win tomorrow.

“Last year we lost the first game and went on to win the other five, so if we play tomorrow in the way we have been doing I will be very happy because we are a team that scores.

“It will be a very tough game, but we can win it.”
