Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has claimed the club's squad are fully united behind under pressure manager Alan Pardew.

The Magpies slipped to another defeat on Monday evening, going down 1-0 away at Stoke City, and sit second bottom in the Premier League table.

Fans have called for Pardew's head and again held up banners asking for him to be sacked, both during and after the defeat at the Britannia Stadium.

Their views are not shared by the club's players however, with Williamson insisting Pardew retains the full backing of the dressing room.

"We're all frustrated but he's been calm and he's showed composure and that's what we need", the defender was quoted as saying by ITV.

"He's obviously come in for a lot of criticism but he's got a thick skin and he knows we can only get ourselves out of this position by going back to the drawing board and working hard.

"It shows on the pitch that we are 100 per cent behind him and we're doing everything we can."

Pardew will hope to end Newcastle's run of poor form when he leads the Magpies against Swansea City on Saturday.
