Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that his side's defending from set pieces is becoming a genuine concern, after watching his side lose 1-0 away at Basel tonight.

The only goal of the game came from Basel striker Marco Streller, taking advantage of poor Liverpool defending from set pieces, to hit the back of the net in the 52nd minute mark.

Liverpool struggled to get going throughout and looked defensively vulnerable, failing to break through the Basel defence and ultimately going down 1-0 at St. Jakob Park. They also found themselves second best in midfield.

And Rodgers is growing concerned about his side's defending.

"We defended very poorly from the corner and it's becoming a symptom of our defending", Rodgers told Sky Sports.

"I think it's something we continue to look at, analyse and work, but you have to deal with it on the field", the manager added, drilling down into Liverpool's poor defending.

"The key to defending is you've got to win your first contact on the ball and we don't do that enough.

"A disappointing result for us and I felt we should have got something out of the game."

The other result in Liverpool's group saw Real Madrid beat Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria 2-1.
