Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has warned his side against underestimating Swiss champions Basel tonight, regardless of the fact that Real Madrid inflicted a 5-1 defeat upon them in their opening Champions League game.

Lallana and co. had a tougher time picking up three points in their opener, needing a last-minute Steven Gerrard penalty to clinch a 2-1 win at Anfield.

They are now in Switzerland aiming for back-to-back Champions League wins, but Lallana is wary of the threat Basel pose.

"You can't underestimate any team. You have to take them all on merit", he told his club's site.

"We know Real Madrid have some exceptional players and I heard in that game Basel had a few chances as well, so it could have been different", Lallana continued.

"We feel that if we concentrate on ourselves and put in a good performance, keep progressing and getting better, like we feel we have been doing, then we can get the right result.

"I found out from my first game in the Champions League that you cannot underestimate any team because they're there on merit.

"Basel had a good run in the competition last year and did well against English opposition, so it's going to be a tough night for us", he added.
