Leeds United boss Darko Milanic believes the English Championship is by far a higher standard than the Austrian Bundesliga.

Milanic managed Sturm Graz in Austria prior to answering Leeds' call last month to take charge at Elland Road on a two-year contract.

He had only been in Austria for a little over a year, having taken over at Sturm Graz fresh from winning four Slovenian titles with NK Maribor.

And Milanic, who has now bossed Leeds in two Championship matches, a defeat to Brentford and a draw with Reading, can already see the gulf in class.

"It's better [than the Austrian Bundesliga]. There are better players here. There is also a better atmosphere here, it's more dynamic here", he told a press conference.

Milanic also unsurprisingly rates the Championship as ahead of the Slovenian top flight, although he believes Maribor are a solid side, pointing to their progress in Europe; the Slovenians are currently in the Champions League and drew against Schalke earlier this week.

"If I compare Slovenian football with the Championship, there is a lot of difference.

"But if I compare, Maribor play very well in Europe, that means they are also extremely good. The [Slovenian] championship is bad, but the team is very good."
