Galatasaray coach Cesare Prandelli has blamed a new system for his side's 4-1 defeat away at Arsenal in the Champions League last night.

The Turkish outfit were full of hope heading into the clash, but collapsed to trail 3-0 at the break, while then matters got worse when Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck completed his hat-trick in the second half.

A consolation goal arrived from the penalty spot, but all in all the evening was miserable for Galatasaray and Prandelli believes his players are still trying to adapt to a new system.

"I had to make some decisions and the main thing is that we tried to pick quality in the middle and at the back", he told UEFA.

"It is my responsibility – it is a new system and the players are trying to do what I asked of them. Unfortunately it was not enough of a performance.

"Arsenal played wider than we thought and Felipe Melo had to play one against one on many occasions. In the second half we changed our system."

Prandelli also feels Galatasaray were guilty of not being aggressive enough in their play and as a result have let themselves down.

"We should have played more aggressively. The Champions League is a big tournament and we should come ready.

"We made a lot of mistakes and we did not represent our quality tonight. It is important for us to understand where we made mistakes and where we can develop – it is up to us to correct it."
