Red Bull worldwide sporting director Gerard Houllier has confirmed Thierry Henry will be leaving New York Red Bulls, but held out the prospect of the 37-year-old continuing his career elsewhere.

The Arsenal legend is soon to be out of contract with the MLS club, who will not be keeping him on at the side.

Houllier, a former Liverpool manager, explained to French sports daily L'Equipe: "He planned to end his career, it's possible these are his last few games that he's had with us."

But Houllier would not be surprised if Henry opted to extend his career and not hang up his boots, believing the desire to play may grip his fellow Frenchman.

"Maybe the desire will tempt him to re-sign somewhere, but it will not be with the Red Bulls", Houllier added.

Henry has scored nine goals for New York Red Bulls since the start of the year, helping the club to a current spot of fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Henry could see his career extended for several games if the Red Bulls can qualify for the MLS playoffs, or if they fail he may retire in less than a month.

Despite having been with the New York-based side since 2010, Henry has never won the MLS.
