Former Newcastle United director of football Dennis Wise does not expect the club's owner Mike Ashley to splash the cash and explained the Magpies supremo is confident of their survival.

A large section of Newcastle fans have called for both manager Alan Pardew and owner Ashley to leave the club, following a prolonged spell of what they view as little in the way of ambition.

The Magpies have made a poor start to the season and sit inside the Premier League's relegation zone with four points from seven games.

So far though Ashley has not been moved to sack Pardew, despite repeated fan protests.

"What he decided to do is run it in a structured way so there was no debt", Wise told beIN Sports.

"So you can sell players with money, bring in and take out.

"He's set the structure with the wage bill as well, he sticks by it as well."

Wise also ruled out the Magpies following Liverpool's path and spending a large amount of money, explaining Ashley is confident the squad at the club is good enough to secure their Premier League status.

"He thinks the club should be able to stay up. He's not going to go and spend £200 million like Liverpool have", Wise added.
