Graziano Pelle has revealed that Fiorentina were interested in signing him in the January transfer window earlier this year.

The striker has just been called up to the Italy squad and his goalscoring feats away from his homeland put him on the radar at La Viola.

At the time Pelle was playing for Dutch outfit Feyenoord, who made it clear they would not allow the Italian to leave on the cheap.

Speaking at a press conference today, Pelle said: "There was some contact [with Fiorentina in January], but the problem is that abroad there is money.

"Feyenoord took advantage and asked for a lot of money, so in reality the contact only meant a small chance of them taking me to Italy.

"Fiorentina would have been a nice destination, but I am happy with how things worked out."

Pelle moved on from Feyenoord this summer to join English Premier League side Southampton.

The Saints paid around €10m to complete a deal for the striker.
